Weight loss programs

Weight loss programs often promote lifestyle changes and diet modification. This may involves eating smaller meals, by cutting down on certain types of food, and making a conscious effort to exercise more.

These program enables people to connect with a group of others that are attempting to loss weight in the hopes that they will encourage and help each other out.

A number of different program exist including Weight Watchers, Overeaters Anonymous, and Jenny Craig. They appear to provide modest weight loss (2.9 kg, 6.4 lb) over dieting on ones own (0.2 kg, 0.4 lb) over a two year period. Internet based programs appear to be ineffective.

Weight Watchers is an international company that offers various dieting products and services to assist weight loss and maintenance. Founded in 1963 by Brooklyn homemaker Jean Nidetch, it now operates in about 30 countries around the world, generally under names that are local translations of "Weight Watchers".
